Meet Information 6/17-- Long Version
The information below was also linked in the push notification sent earlier. New swimmers, please be sure to read the entire (long) document. Returning swimmers, please review through the Bogey Hills specific information. Let's make sure this meet goes swimmingly.
WHITMOOR WAVES MEETS
- Swim Meets are the highlight of swim season. The fun swimmers have at these is the reward for all the hard work of practice, but they also require a lot of preparation to run smoothly.
- Meets can be long, but you may leave as soon as your swimmer is finished AND your volunteer job is complete.
- The lineup and events were required to be turned in last week to create the Heat Sheets. If you have a last minute emergency, TEXT Coach Kiewiet at 636-248-1191.
- Due to league rules, we have very limited ability to change events, and can only remove swimmers, we CANNOT add swimmers.

GENERAL SWIM MEET INFORMATION
We have many new swimmers on the team this year and we want everyone to find success. If you are a returning swimmer, this is not new information, but please assist new swimmers in learning the ropes.
- CHECK-IN FOR MEETS AND BE ON TIME!
- Home meets begin with warm up at 4:30 and meets start at 5:00. Away meets warm up at 5:30 and start at 6:00.
- FOR BOGEY HILLS ARRIVE NO LATER THAN 5:15.
- Please arrive at least 15 minutes before warm up.
- Warm up is the only time the swimmer can be in the water before their events– it is vital they do not miss it.
- Check in when you arrive at the meet! Look for the clipboards!
- Swimmers need to check in with Darcie Brady near the pool entrance.
- Volunteer workers need to check in with the volunteer coordinator, Michelle Rogers.
- Heat sheets will be emailed on the day of the meet. Please print out your own heat sheet or utilize the Swimtopia App.
- Use sharpies to mark your swimmer’s races, heat and lane on their arms so they know when they are swimming. The attached example has worked well for Waves families in the past.
- Mark swimmer’s arms before coming to the meet, if possible.
- Some sunscreen can cause the marks to fade– bring an extra sharpie with you to do touch ups if needed.
- Events are numbered 1-110. Girls swim ODD numbers and Boys swim EVEN. There are 4 relay events that swim co-ed. Co-ed events are listed as odd events with the following even number skipped. Ex: Event #11 is a co-ed relay followed by #13 which is a girl’s relay. Event 55 marks the halfway point of the meet.
- Be aware, sometimes events will be combined and numerous events could swim during the same time. This often happens with older swimmers as there are less of them. Also, there are occasionally changes to relays just prior to the meet
- BRING HEALTHY SNACKS AND STAY HYDRATED
- Meets can typically last 3 to 4 hours and kids get hungry in between races.
- Even though the kids are swimming in water they will need to DRINK LOTS OF WATER AND GATORADE to stay hydrated, especially in hot weather.
- Focus on bringing healthy snacks such as fruit, yogurt, cheese, nuts, and sandwiches.
- Most venues have concession stands with hot dogs, pizza, burgers, drinks and candy for purchase. These are often CASH ONLY.
- BE POSITIVE
- Please cheer positively for your swimmer and their teammates.
- YOU are their biggest fan. Celebrate their efforts and attitudes, even if they have a tough swim.
- Encourage your swimmer to cheer for teammates, especially the other swimmers in their relay team.
- We are a team! Cheering each other on makes us better!
- Swimmers are required to wear a Whitmoor Waves swim cap at swim meets, as well as their team suit.
- Kids will be getting in and out of the water for races. They will need at least a couple towels as wet towels get cold and some meets can be cold.
- Swimmers should bring at least one pair of goggles and an optional back up pair.
- To show spirit, swimmers and spectators often also wear their Whitmoor Waves spirit wear, but please dress for the weather.
- Thunder/lightning will cause a meet to be delayed per league regulations.
- Meets will only be cancelled per league regulations.
- A meet must go to the half-way point to count. There will be make up meets for cancelled meets based on team schedules/pool availability.
- We have also held meets in extreme heat. Depending on the heat index we typically do not call off meets for heat.
- REMEMBER SUNBLOCK FOR YOU AND YOUR SWIMMERS! The sun still will be up for the majority of our meets; it’s always hot!
- No recreational swimming during meets. No one is allowed in the water unless they are competing or it is the warm up. This includes any kiddie pools or play areas.
- On deck pool chairs fill up fast. If you want to make sure you have a seat, bring a folding chair.
